Would you like to take any Barcelona souvenirs home? Have you thought about a sombrero? Forget it! Those hats are Mexican, so please... look below and follow my advice on what Barcelona souvenirs to buy and NOT to buy.
You should NOT buy in Barcelona:
A Mexican sombrero: nothing to do with Spain and even less with Catalonia! Why should you buy one? It would be as if you bought a Russian doll in Hawaii!
A flamenco dress: no discussion about how beautiful these dresses are, however... they are Spanish, not Catalan. So, if you'd like to buy something to wear, I suggest you get a typical cap called barretina, instead.
Bullfighting souvenirs: Barcelona is against bullfighting. Buying any souvenirs of that type makes no sense at all!
You should buy in Barcelona:
A piece of Gaudí: these souvenirs really represent Barcelona and have become the most popular ones among tourists. There are many items with Gaudi's mosaic themes; like mugs, ashtrays, candles, diaries, posters, postcards...and the salamander of Parc Güell.
A Barça T-shirt: or any other FC Barcelona items like caps, badges or scarfs. You can buy them in Camp Nou or in Las Ramblas, and get them printed with the name and number you wish.
A Catalan donkey: that stubborn, hard-working animal is the symbol of Catalonia. You'll find nice mugs, T-shirts and car stickers with its image.
A bottle of cava: do not hesitate to take one bottle of this delicious, Catalan sparkling wine.
A porrón: have you ever drunk with this strange wine bottle typical from Catalonia?
Now you know what Barcelona souvenirs to buy. I hope you've stopped thinking about the sombrero, haven't you?
